Showing Love When Words Fall Flat
In Scripture, God tells His people to build standing stones to remember who He is and what He’s done.
Jacob (after God renamed him Israel) - Genesis 35:14
Moses (after receiving the ten commandments) - Exodus 24:4
Joshua (after crossing the Jordan River) - Joshua 4
After maxing out the amount of times a person could say “I love you” without others thinking me insane, I started looking for small gestures to represent my thoughtful love for my wife (in addition to the other ways I help around the house).
Many years ago, I ran across our bedroom to hand my wife her towel when she finished showering. This tradition stuck, not because she’s incapable of reaching the 18”, but because I wanted to bless her…
To my wife, me running to grab her towel tells her I’m thinking about and caring for her.
A while later I noticed her 32 ounce water bottle would often run dry. Amidst the chaos of her day-to-day, I started taking the initiative to regularly check and fill her water bottle.
Now, her water being filled is a tangible reminder of my love and care for her.
Doing either of these once or twice is nice, but the depth of meaning has come from the consistency over time.
If you’re looking for ways to remind your wife of your love for her, especially if words fall flat, what are some small gestures you can repeatedly do to subtly show her your love?
